Stephen Greenaway

I began my Martial Arts training at the age of 6 in Judo under Master Dominic McCarthy, founder of Zen Judo, I did this for a few years but wanted to train in a martial art that involved more in the way of striking so I started Taekwondo.

I enjoyed Taekwondo very much and loved the striking aspect as well as all the fancy kicking techniques. I train very hard and worked my way through the coloured ranks until I eventually received my Black Belt in 1995. Training was always my passion but I also enjoyed teaching too and when the opportunity to undertake a teaching apprenticeship came up, I jumped at the chance. The years during 1998 – 2001 were spent teaching at my instructors academy where I managed over 200 active students, this was invaluable in gaining the experience to teach and structure a quality martial arts programs to both children and adults.

During this time I started to take an interest in Brazilian Jiujitsu but unfortunately there was nowhere near by to train. The closest places were about an hours drive, I trained this way on and off for about 5 years but couldn’t really get into it properly due to the lack of schools. Not wanting to continue this way for another 5 years in 2008 after years of training I travelled out to the states and became affiliated with the Roy Dean Academy under Sensei Roy Dean.

I began my martial arts training in the art of Taekwondo at the age of 17. Having touched on a few martial arts as a child I decided to give them another go. After 3 years of hard training I gained  Black Belt.

I achieved my Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in September 2009 and keep a close relationship with my Instructor (Roy Dean) by travelling to his academy twice a year for training and guidance in the art of BJJ.
